网络空间安全学院学术讲座(五十五、五十六)

题目一:Internet of Things: Applications and Security Challenges

内容简介:The Internet is used daily for many online services, e.g., to communicate, find information, do transactions, and be entertained. And this is possible independent of location due to its openness and distributed nature. But this very openness has posed vulnerabilities, allowing attacks such as ID theft, denial of service, industrial espionage, and extortion.

The Internet of Things (IoT) anticipates connecting billions of objects to the Internet in the next few years, thus potentially creating additional challenging security and privacy issues.

The objective of this talk is to describe some current trends affecting Internet security, and point out the sources of security problems, as well as provide an overview of IoT and its related security issues. Typical IoT applications will be presented with focus on autonomous cars. Also, some potential solutions, safeguards, and defenses will be offered.

报告人:美国史蒂文斯理工学院Manu Malek  教授

报告人简介:Manu Malek has been Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier international journal Computers and Electrical Engineering since 2010.He has an extensive history of teaching, practicing, and research in communications and computer networking; and has held various academic positions in the USA and overseas, as well as management positions at Bellcore and Bell Labs.He was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Lucent Bell Labs until 2001; then joined Stevens Institute of Technology as Professor of Computer Science and Telecom Management, from which he retired a few years ago.He is the author, co-author, or editor of seven books, and author or co-author of more than fifty papers in the areas of communication networks, computer communications, and network management. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and an IEEE Millennium medalist for his contributions. He was Editor for Network Management for IEEE Transactions on Communications (1989-92), an IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer (1999-2007), and founder and Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Journal of Network and Systems Management (1993-2010).Dr. Malek is a frequent invitee as keynote speaker at international conferences. His favorite topic is information security with subtopics IoT, autonomous vehicles, cybersecurity forensics and defense.

题目二:Advanced Computing in Data Center Networks

内容简介:Driven by the demands of explosive big data applications, advanced computing across geographically dispersed data centers is evolving to be a major paradigm for high-performance big data processing and analytics. A data center network is composed of a dedicated center network (CN) of ultra-high bandwidth that interconnects multiple data centers, each containing a massive number of servers, and an edge network (EN) that connects the CN to edge servers through the Internet. While the CN provides high-performance distributed computing in an ultra-large scale in both parallelism and geographical span, the EN supplies ubiquitous on-demand client access to the CN and supports real-time data collection from heterogeneous data sources, pre-processing and outsourcing.

In this talk, I will first introduce the architecture and new features of advanced computing in data center networks, and overview some current research focuses in different levels of this advanced computing environment in response to three big challenges - efficiency, reliability and security. Then, to show the research opportunities in this challenging direction, I will discuss some research problems and present their solutions by illustrating the relevant work done by my research team. Finally I will conclude the talk by displaying some of our on-going and future work in this direction.
